Swiss Celebration Held On July 26
Staff Writer

The Grundy County Swiss Heritage Celebration will host the six member Alphorn band of Tony Zgraggen of New Glarus, Wisconsin on July 26. This will be the third time this group has come to Grundy County.

A large crowd is expected so come early and hear the melodic sounds of these Swiss yodelers and horn blowers. The event will also feature Swiss flag displays, real Swiss fondue, Swiss wine and cheese, homemade wines and other favorites such as bratwurst und sauerkraut.

Hayrides, local arts and crafts, organic produce grown on the farm and tours of the recently restored buildings will also be available during the event. Old records and archives of the early Swiss settlers will be on display with other historic items of the early Swiss Colony. There will be many farm animals to see and pet such as goats, horses and oxen.

Plan to spend the day with entertainment starting at 10:00 a.m. and lasting until 4:00 p.m. There will be plenty of parking and assistance to and from the parking areas will be provided. Bring your family and lawn chairs for a fun-filled day on the beautiful Stocker-Stampfli Homestead in Gruetli-Laager.

Follow overhead road banners on TN Highway 108 to the event. Admission is $2 per person, $5 for a family of four.

Membership in the Swiss Historical Society is open to the public for $15 per year and $25 per family. The event is sponsored in part with contributions of wine, cheese and music by the Swiss Consul General of Atlanta, as well as grants from the Grundy County Mayor’s office and other generous local contributors.
